Michael Brown's death at the hands of a racist police officer in August was a reminder to us all of the state racism and police brutality that goes unchecked everyday.
In Ireland, Asylum seekers, members of the Travelling community and ethnic minorities deal with institutional racism daily. It's important that we make these connections and highlight their troubles. In recent weeks, we have seen how the Gardaí have no issues in brutalising water charges protesters - the strong arm of the state and racial profiling are conjoined.
This event was the beginning and kick-started more organised anti-racism activism in Galway.
